Jared lives with his father Barry and new puppy, Autumn.

Diagnosis

Jared was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at the age of 8. DMD is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. DMD is caused by an absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps keep muscle cells intact. Symptom onset is in early childhood, usually between ages 3 and 5. The disease primarily affects boys, but in rare cases it can affect girls.

School

Jared is currently in the fifth grade. His favorite subjects in school are reading, science, and history.

Interests

Jared enjoys swimming and playing on his local Little League team. He is active in the community as he is the high school’s field manager and soccer team’s statistician. He is also involved in the school band where he plays in the percussion section. Jared also enjoys singing in his schools chorus. Jared enjoys attending MDA Summer Camp and loves building with his Lego collection.

MDA Activities

Jared has traveled the state to attend our MDA Lock-Ups, has attended the Show of Strength Premiere Party, been a Fire and Shamrock Ambassador, and he has supported numerous mobile campaigns. Additionally,Jared and his father have supported the C.N Brown Company at their events including an annual golf tournament, trade show, and Jersey’s off their Back game with the Portland Seadog’s. Finally, Jared is one of the top teams at the annual MDA Muscle Walk!
