Research Study Alert: Study of Wearable Gait Sensor in People with or without Neuromuscular Disease

Researchers at the University of California, Davis Neuromuscular Research Lab are seeking individuals with or without neuromuscular disease (ages 2 years or older) to participate in a research study to test the feasibility of using a wearable gait sensor to collect data as part of a new outcome measure for use in future clinical trials.

This study does not involve an intervention. Enrolled participants will be asked to perform approximately 1/2 hour of light to moderate functional mobility testing (walking, jogging) while wearing a belt with a mobile phone or smart watch to collect health status data. Some volunteers may also be asked to wear a small sensor on their ankle. Participants will be required to meet with a study team member at the study site in Davis or Sacramento or a local community space (park, etc.) or participate over a video call. They will have the option to take part in just one or multiple visits.

To be eligible, individuals must meet the following inclusion criteria:

  • Ambulatory children, teens, and adults, age 2 years of age and older
  • Individuals with Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophy, fascioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease or spinal muscular atrophy
  • Volunteers without a neuromuscular condition (must be healthy enough to exercise)

Individuals may not be eligible to participate if they experience any condition that might make it unsafe to perform functional testing.
