Today marks the first day of open enrollment for the national Health Insurance Marketplace and many state health insurance marketplaces. If you purchase your health insurance from either the state or federal marketplace, it’s important that you take a look at the plans available for 2020 to ensure that they meet the needs of you and your family. Check out all available plans in your state by visiting healthcare.gov/see-plans today.
Remember that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires that all health plans provide coverage for pre-existing conditions, including neuromuscular conditions, without charging more for that coverage. It also requires every health plan to cover a set of minimum essential health benefits, including preventive and wellness visits (including chronic disease management), prescriptions, emergency visits, and lab services used to diagnose a condition. Click here to read more about the ACA’s essential health benefits.
Even if your plan is renewable through 2020, you should still check out what options may be available to you for next year. The federal open enrollment period is open for only a short time — it ends Dec. 15 — so do your research and make your choice soon to ensure that you have the right coverage in 2020.
