Thanks in part to Dutch Bros. generous support, MDA is currently funding 38 active ALS grants, with a total funding commitment of $9.6 million.
On August 17, Bryan Steward will begin his hike on the 500-mile Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain. What makes his trip special is that Bryan lives with Becker muscular dystrophy, and he’s undertaking this arduous trek because he knows he may not be able to someday soon. He’s also following in the steps of other MDA supporters, Justin Skeesuck and Patrick Gray, who also hiked the Camino and will be sharing their story with the world this fall in the film I’ll Push You, benefiting MDA.
On August 10, National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) President Fredric Rolando did a little time and a lot of good as a “jailbird” at an MDA Lock-Up event in Fredericksburg, Va. After blowing past his initial goal of $5,000 weeks prior to the event, he raised his fundraising goal to $25,000 and is on track to meet that goal in the coming weeks.
Today, more than 60 buildings and landmarks across the U.S. and Canada will be lit bright green to raise awareness for neuromuscular diseases thanks to Light It Up Green for Muscular Dystrophy.
Towering 19,000+ feet over the African countryside, Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s most daunting peaks. For 26-year-old Jared King of New York City, climbing the mountain is a worthwhile challenge to undertake and represents the fulfillment of two longtime personal goals.
“My husband and I always tell people this because it is the truth: Henry is our hero,” says Stephanie Betts, an Team Momentum runner and proud mother of son Henry who lives with congenital muscular dystrophy. “He is incredibly strong. Our quote on the back of our Henry’s Heroes shirts states, ‘True strength is in the soul and spirit, not in muscles.’ He is an amazing kid who has the best attitude that just draws people in. We are so incredibly lucky to be his parents.”
“My time with Team Momentum — I love it. It’s an all-year event for me,” Pat says. “The people you meet, the families you meet, the staff at the MDA — it’s all incredible. It’s the most inspiring thing I’ve ever been a part of. I explained to my wife after the first time I ran the Chicago Marathon that I feel like I have this cup of good feelings in my life, and that weekend, it overflows.”
